Webcomic summary. I had a better one but the wiki is down. So here's my summary.

Italy was born in the house of the Roman Empire with a lot of other countries. One day, Grampa Rome took Italy away and left the house. The two lived together for a while doing artsy things. When Italy returned to Rome's house, things were different and the other countries began bullying him and trying to claim him as theirs.

Austria succeeded, and took Italy in as his servant. But Austria thought Italy was a girl and stuck him in dresses and bloomers (though somehow Hungary was the only one who knew he was a boy). Italy was always in trouble with Austria and his strict rules, but that was okay. There were times when they got along well.

Holy Roman Empire also lived in Austria's house. Holy Rome had a huge crush on Italy and had trouble speaking with him but Italy taught Holy Rome how to paint. Holy Rome left one day, offering for Italy to join them so they could become a powerful country, but Italy refused. he didn't want Holy Rome to fall like Grampa Rome did.

(Centuries later, when Italy grew up, Austria just got him a bigger dress.)

Fast forward to the 1900s. Germany found Italy trapped in a tomato box and takes him prisoner. The prisoner thing didn't go so well and Italy was just happy to get food and a place to sleep. So when Germany found out he couldn't get rid of Italy, he made a pact with him. Eventually Japan joined the group.

Italy wasn't the best ally to have around and caused more trouble than Germany knew how to handle. Italy tended to get himself kidnapped and Germany had to come bail him out (though there were times when Italy was just mailed back to Germany in a crate, particularly when Italy complained about England's lack of good-tasting food).

Italy became jealous of Germany's attempt to make an alliance with Russia, so he ran away. Germany found him and pinky swore they would be BFFs and help each other out in times of need. And so Germany and Russia formed an alliance. Or something.

[ Personality ] :
In general, Italy is a very cheerful and carefree guy. He likes to paint and cook from scratch and share it with his friends. Friends are very important to him and he values them greatly (especially when they come to bail him out of trouble). He's afraid of his friends choosing someone else over him because he's weak at fighting and tends to get into a lot of trouble. From when he was a kid, Italy was picked on. Other countries fought over him because they wanted his art or good food or trade, but never because they wanted him. He was often pushed around and bullied or purposely frightened. Even his older brother, South Italy, harasses him. But even despite the bullying, he still considers some of those countries his friends, like France. He's rather forgiving at times.

When Italy believed Germany would favor Russia over himself (mostly thanks to France planting the idea into his head), he has nightmares that Germany would forget about him. He calls France for advice, who tells him to write a long letter to Germany. Italy does so, telling him about his fears that Germany will forget him. This leads Germany to pinky swear that he and Italy are BFFs and will help each other out in times of need. For Germany, Italy and Japan are his only friends, and Italy returns the sentiment.

On terms of best friends, Japan is also a close friend but in a different way than with Germany. Italy and Japan share a love of food and art. Japan visited Italy's house to see the architecture and the art museums. Italy borrowed Japan's books with art in it to see his art style. Italy, however, terrifies Japan when he drives (leaving Japan to vow to make safer cars). In general, the two get along really well.

Italy is easy to frighten. Very easy. And when frightened, he waves his white flag, surrendering and begging not to be hurt. Other countries kidnap him pretty easily (like America just picks him up and carries him off), so he calls Germany when he's in trouble, usually crying and calling to be rescued.

Italy has to take a siesta every afternoon at 3, and he usually does so completely naked. He never fails to siesta, and will siesta right on the patio if that's where he is. He has no problem with nudity and tends to streak when he forgets to put his pants on (Germany offers Italy his pants to cover Italy up when he comes to great Russia completely pantsless). He also sleeps naked at night and when he has bad dreams, he jumps into bed with Germany without any clothes on. When he is clothed, however, he's very fashionable, as noted by Germany when he attemtps to blend in with the Italian people.

Italy cannot survive without pasta. Pasta is his answer for many things. When he lived with Austria, Austria would deprive him of pasta when Italy wasn't following the rules. Italy even took pasta out into the desert when he went with Germany to the Sahara. Italy loves good food. He complains when England captures him because England's food is horrible (this complaining causes England to ship Italy back to Germany in a wooden crate). When Italy first started living in Germany's house, the two cooked together. Eventually Italy learned how to make German food, although he seems to not like certain types of sausages (except wurst. he likes wurst).

Italy is also a huge flirt. Whenever he visits another country's house, he always flirts with the women. When Germany captured Italy, he flirted with the German women. When he visited Japan, he flirted with Japanese women too, claiming they were the cutest. Women tend to take a liking to him, as he is friendly and a snappy dresser. Women seem to attract to him and giggle when they talk to him.

Italy also doesn't particularly like to exercise and does not understand tactics at all. Germany tries to train him and Japan (the latter of the two was successful in training), but Italy tends to get distracted and forget what he's doing. He's slow at running until he's running away, then he's super fast. Germany tried several times to teach him discipline and tactics in battle. Whenever Germany asked what to do in a battle situation, Italy's answer was always "surrender" or wave a white flag.

Italy has this huuuge curl coming out of the side of his head. It is considered the "sexual something of Italians." Basically when it's pulled or touched, he gets all hot and bothered but also more noticeably, incredibly calm. Germany discovered this once and tugs on it to calm him down. Japan wants to tug on it because it looks like a wild fern curl (and Japan does like his gardens).

Even with as bit as it is, somehow it rarely gets caught on anything. The only time he's gotten it caught was when he and his brother were fighting and their curls got stuck together. Germany had to untangle them.

Strengths

• Italy is an amazing artist, particularly with painting. He could spend all day painting, if he could.


• Italy is also an amazing cook. He can make pasta and pizza from scratch. He also knows some German and French cuisine.


• He's very good at making white flags.

Weaknesses

• Italy is a wussy. Put him in battle and he'll surrender almost immediately and cry for help.


• He doesn't really know how to stand up for himself.


• He is easily distracted by food and kitties.
